We believe that language is communication and that there are many skills that need to be developed. Language Arts involve Reading, English (grammar, writing, oral communication and listening), Spelling and Library Services.
We believe that the Language Arts program encompasses the entire curriculum across all content areas. Effective communication is the goal of the Language Arts curriculum.
Reading is a process of knowing, perceiving, interpreting and comprehending the printed, pictorial and oral word. This process provides a tool through which the student gains knowledge of all subjects and an appreciation of the word.
Provide a well-balanced reading program that includes systematic instruction in fictional and non-fictional material as well as reading in the content areas.
Provide a reading program that assesses the child’s abilities and evaluates growth.
Emphasize the close relationship of the reading process with speaking, listening, and writing as well as with other subjects in the curriculum.
