After School Chess Club

chessAccording to the Chess Scholars, “Current research has shown a strong link between chess and academic performance in a variety of areas, including mathematics and language arts. Also, chess has been proven to enhance children’s motivation, concentration, focus, social skills and creativity.” Chess Scholars offers an after school chess club at MQS for students in K5 through 8th grade for an additional fee.

The club meets once a week for six weeks from 3:05-4:05pm in fall and again in spring and each session includes interactive teaching and guided practice with an experienced coach. A chess competition with pizza and prizes is held on the last day. Registration forms are sent to families through the Wednesday folder a few weeks before the club begins.

The completed form and check should be mailed directly to Chess Scholars at 655 Deerfield Rd., Ste. 100-341, Deerfield, IL 60015

Chess 'N Chew

Every Wednesday during the months of January and February, you’ll find a group of fourth through eighth graders having a great time playing chess while they eat lunch.

We call this club Chess ‘N Chew and it’s meant for those who love the best game in the world and those who want to learn how to play.

There’s no cost to join, but you have to be willing to give up your lunch recess. Contact Mrs. Suvaka for more information.
